Friday Dream Projects Week 6: Emails on Rails Edition

Dream Projects, Ruby

This week, I’m dreaming of a nice application mailer that integrates with Ruby on Rails. Specifically, I want something like Campaign Monitor, but without the metered costs so that I can be a little more free to send emails to my users. Most of the applications I have built recently require that I send emails to a specific user or a dynamic subset of users. I would love to have the ability to offload this work, as well as the HTML vs. Plain Text subscription management, to a third party. Let me pay a modest fee per month, monitor me (to make sure I’m not a spammer), but allow me to reuse my branding and offload my important email notifications, downtime announcements, marketing campaigns, newsletters, and other customized emails to your service. Think of it as a remote version of ERb, where I supply the target user(s) and the content body/variables, and you generate and send a pretty email for me. Finally, provide a simple Rails plugin to replace or supplement ActionMailer and synchronize my users, email addresses, and mailing lists with your service, pain-free.

If you know of a project like this, please comment or drop me a note directly.
